Dial: An over-engineered clock
I’ve always liked clocks. Dial is a timepiece that houses localized knock detection, disco emulation, automatic time synchronization, and a digital clock face.
The project was built with Trevor Pennypacker and Hyun Ji Jung with machining help from my roommate Spencer Collins. We wrote firmware using the mbed platform on a LPC1768 controller. All embedded systems code was in-house, with the exception of a Fourier library we found on the internet for live music frequency response. The final product was machined from a solid piece of 12” aluminum to perfectly fit the LED light strip and custom center acrylic face.
